I Wrote A Book On Remote Work Just Before Covid Hit. Here’s What I’ve Learned In the Past Two Years.

In 2019, I wrote a book on remote work. The result, Office Optional: How To Build a Connected Culture With Virtual Teams, came out in early 2020, during the early days of the pandemic.

The timing was fortuitous, to say the least — just as my book was released, businesses everywhere plunged headfirst into a forced remote work experiment. What I thought would happen over the next decade rapidly unfolded in a matter of days. Today, 58% of U.S. workers (about 92 million people), work remotely at least part-time.
